Sikkim Police Force moves to India-China border amid faceoff

Indian Reserve Battalion of Sikkim Police Force has been deployed on border areas following India-China faceoff in Ladakh. Sikkim shares a 220 km long border with the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China and had seen conflicts between India and China in the past.

Gangtok (Sikkim): Amid India-China border controversy, Indian Reserve Battalion of Sikkim Police Force has been deployed on border areas.

Speaking to media, Prawin Gurung, the deputy Inspector General of Sikkim police, said that the deployment is a normal exercise during such situations, it does not imply wartime.

"Sikkim is a sensitive border state so its police have a responsibility to remain vigilant. If the need arises, we will assist the Army too," he said.

He further said that in accordance with the directive of the Sikkim government, armed forces have been deployed at Lachen, Lachung and Thangu in north Sikkim and Kupup and Sherathang in east Sikkim.

It is to be noted that the state shares a 220 km long border with the Tibetan Autonomous Region of China and had seen conflicts between India and China in the past.
