New Delhi:Delhi's Karkardooma court on Thursday sent Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student Sharjeel Imam to judicial custody till October 22 in a case registered under UAPA in connection with Delhi violence.
Sharjeel's judicial custody was ending today after which Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat gave the new order.
Sharjeel's lawyer Surabhi Das protested against extending the judicial custody and said that he did not yet understand the meaning of making Sharjeel an accused in this case. He also said that he has not even been given a copy of the remand while Sharjeel was sent to judicial custody on September 3.
Sharjeel was arrested on 25 August in the Delhi violence case and a charge sheet was filed under UAPA against him by the Delhi Police.

The police had stated that the Sharjeel was desperate to take the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) to an all-India level and was trying hard to do so. It also stated that Sharjeel was in contact with one of the members of the Popular Front of India (PFI).
