Sham that Congress is opposing triple talaq bill: Shukla

Former Union Minister and Rajya Sabha MP, Shiv Pratap Shukla hits out at the Congress party for protesting against the triple talaq bill. He said that it is a mere sham that Congress party is opposing the triple talaq bill.

New Delhi:Former Union Minister and Rajya Sabha MP, Shiv Pratap Shukla lashed out at the Congress for supporting the practices like triple talaq and nikah-halala.

He said that it is a mere sham that Congress party is indirectly opposing the triple talaq bill.

"Congress party should have learnt this from its defeat that a large number of Muslim women had voted to the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. Congress doesn't want that Muslim women should get their rights, " Said Shukla.

On being asked about JDU opposing the bill, Shukla said that party will coax JDU and they will definitely support the bill.

Shukla further said that Sonia Gandhi herself is a woman. Atleast, she should understand the magnitude of the bill and support it.

The triple talaq bill seeks to make instant triple talaq a criminal offence punishable with three years in jail. The bill is aimed at Muslim men who divorce their wives by pronouncing "talaq" three times in one go.
