Shaheen Bagh: SC takes suo moto cognizance of participation of minors in protests

Following a letter written by a student to the CJI, the Supreme Court has taken suo moto cognizance of the involvement of kids and infants in demonstrations after the death of an infant on January 30 at Shaheen Bagh protests.

New Delhi:The Supreme Court on Monday will take suo moto cognizance of minors taking part in Shaheen Bagh protests.

Earlier this week, 12-year-old bravery award winner Zen Gunratan Sadavarte had written a letter to the Chief Justice of India, SA Bobde seeking directions to authorities to prevent involvement of children and infants in demonstrations and agitations.

She wrote the letter in the wake of the death of a 4-month-old infant of one of the protesters who participated in the Shaheen Bagh protest on January 30.

The petition listed on Friday for clearing Shaheen Bagh was adjourned to Monday due to Delhi's elections.

The matter which was earlier listed on Friday for hearing before the bench headed by CJI SA Bobde has been postponed to February 10 in wake of the Delhi Assembly elections 2020.
