According to the data released by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, in 2016, 539 complaints were registered which almost doubled to 965 in 2018.
Sexual Harassment cases almost doubles in 2018 from 2016 These complaints include cases of Sexual Harassment at work place also.
The ministry listed out two sets of data, one maintained by NCRB and the other maintained by the NCW. The NCRB data just shows the complaints registered under Sexual Harassment at workplace and NCW data gives a wholesome figure about the total number of sexual Harassment cases registered.
According to the NCRB data, sexual harassment at work place has also increased from 57 in 2014, to 119 in 2015 and to 142 cases in 2016.
There was no data given for 2017 and 2018 by the NCRB.
NCW data(all the sexual harassment cases) shows 539 cases registered in 2016, 570 in 2017 and 965 in 2018. NCW has started maintaining data separately for Sexual Harassment of women at the workplace from this year i. e. 2019 and has registered 29 cases so far.
The government has taken initiatives like SHe-Box, formation of Internal Complain Committee(ICC) in every organisation, and instructing states and UTs to organise various workshops to aware and sensitise people.
So far the SHe-box has registered 423 complaints out of which 4 were disposed. The information about the cases was given by Dr. Virendra Kumar, MoS for WCD ministry in Lok Sabha today.
