Rajasthan Governor, CM condole demise of Raghuvansh Prasad Singh

Rajasthan Governor Kalraj Mishra, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and other leaders condoled the death of former Union minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh who passed away in AIIMS Delhi on Sunday. In a condolence message, the Governor described Singh as a "voice of the poor" and said he had a personal association with him.

Chief Minister Gehlot said Singh was a grassroots-level leader. "He always raised the voice for the rights of farmers, backward and destitute people," Gehlot said.

Gehlot said Singh was a seasoned politician who will be missed in the Indian politics. Former deputy chief minister Sachin Pilot also condoled the demise of Singh and said he will be remembered for his work and contribution towards strengthening rural India.

Bihar lost a true son of public welfare: JP Nadda on Raghuvansh's demise

Expressing grief over the death of Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, BJP president Jagat Prakash Nadda said the former Union minister always gave priority to public service and that Bihar has lost a pro-people leader.

In a statement, Nadda remembered Singh as a simple-natured man who was liked by the masses. He was a strong pillar of socialism and dedicated his life to serving the poor, Nadda said.

In his long public life, which included participation in the JP movement against the Emergency, Singh never compromised with his ideals and maintained a spotless image while working for social justice in the interest of the deprived and poor section of society. His death has caused a political vacuum not only in Bihar but also in the country which cannot be filled, the BJP president said. Singh had ground understanding and wise perspective and had a real grip over the issues of rural development and Indian agriculture, Nadda said.

VP condoles Raghuvansh's death, says he will be remembered for role in implementation of MGNREGA

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu condoled the death of former Union minister and veteran politician Raghuvansh Prasad Singh on Sunday, saying he will always be remembered for his role in implementing the rural employment guarantee scheme.

Home Minister Amit Shah condoles demise of RJD veteran

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday condoled the death of former Union minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh and said his dedication towards the welfare of the poor and deprived classes will be remembered forever.

Singh died at AIIMS in Delhi on Sunday.

"I am deeply saddened by the death of senior Bihar politician Raghuvansh Babu. His entire life was devoted to the ideas of Lohia ji and Karpoori Thakur ji.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday paid rich tributes to former union minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh, saying with his demise a strong voice of the village and farmers has been lost.

The Congress also termed him as the "beloved son of Bihar" who will be remembered for being the advocate of moral values in politics, and said his demise heralds the end of a chapter in the history of revolution.

New Delhi: Former union minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh died at AIIMS, Delhi on Sunday, a close aide said.

Singh died around 11am due to breathlessness and other complications, Kedar Yadav, who remains by the side of the septuagenarian, told over phone.

He is survived by two sons and a daughter, he said. Singh's wife had died earlier.

The body of the 74-year-old leader will be brought to Patna for the performance of the last rites, the aide said. Singh had fallen critically ill late Friday night and
was put on a ventilator in ICU in the AIIMS, Yadav added.

Earlier in June he had tested positive for COVID and was admitted at AIIMS Patna.

He was taken to AIIMS in the national capital recently following post-COVID complications.

Singh's last rites would be performed at his native village in Bihar's Vaishali district. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, RJD Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and Bihar CM condoled his demise.

Singh's political career kicked off in 1977 and in 1991 he was elected as a member of Rajya Sabha. An incumbent MP from Vaishali for five consecutive years, Singh was also appointed as Union Agricultural minister. A staunch Lalu loyalist, Raghuvansh was like his shadow.

Raghuvansh Prasad was reportedly unhappy over talks of former Lok Janashakti Party (LJP) Member of Parliament Rama Kishore Singh joining the RJD. Raghuvansh Prasad and Rama Kishore are Rajputs and bitter rivals. Kishore had defeated Raghuvansh Prasad in the 2014 Lok Sabha election from Vaishali.
