SC takes suo moto cognizance of Chardham complain

The apex court has taken a suo moto cognizance of a complaint letter written by its appointed High Powered Committee's chairman for the Chardham project and is likely to hear it on 26th October.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court has taken a suo moto cognizance of a complaint letter written by its appointed High Powered Committee's chairman for the Chardham project and is likely to hear it on 26th October.

The chairman had recently written a letter to the court alleging non-compliance of the court's order by the centre.

Earlier in September this year, the court had made it clear to the government that it has to abide by its own circular of 2018 wherein the width of the roads shall be 5.5m. It had also asked the government to plant trees to recover the damage caused by the construction of char Dham project.

The order had come on 8th September and after almost a month, on 5th October, the Chairman alleged non-compliance. He said that he had written to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways ( MoRTH ) about the order and had sought certain details but did not receive a full satisfactory reply.

Char Dham project involves the construction of highways in Uttrakhand to reduce the travel time and connect the 4 shrines of Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath.
