SC refuses to pass immediate orders on repatriation of Indian-origin pregnant woman from US

The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to pass any immediate orders for the repatriation of an Indian-origin pregnant woman stuck in the USA with her 18-month-old daughter amid coronavirus outbreak. The bench said that they would serve the petition copy to the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to look into the case and take appropriate steps.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to pass any immediate orders for the repatriation of an Indian-originpregnant woman stuck in the USA with her 18-month-old daughter amid coronavirus outbreak.

The applicant, Pooja Chaudhary, who has been stuck for over three months in the USA appealed to the court that she may be allowed to take an Air India flight from the USA on 13th May as any delay would imperil her health due to the advanced stage of her pregnancy.

The bench said that they would serve the petition copy to the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta to look into the case and take appropriate steps but won't pass any orders on the matter.

The advocate appearing for Chaudhary said that the flight is tomorrow to which the bench replied, "Don't threaten us like this."

The advocate informed the court that they are planning to book the flight for 13th but the court said that they would talk to the SG regarding the matter.
