Vishakhapatnam: The Supreme Court on Monday granted one week to Andhra Pradesh High Court to take a final call on LG Polymers case. The apex court bench led by Justice UU Lalit passed an order stating that the disbursal of Rs 50 crores as interim penalty to be refrained for at least ten days. The next hearing is scheduled after two weeks.

This comes after LG Polymers India Pvt Ltd decided to challenge the main order after the National Green Tribunal had slapped an interim compensation of Rs 50 crore in connection with the deadly gas leak incident in which 11 people were killed.

The Supreme Court had earlier allowed LG Polymers to have restricted access to its sealed plant at Vizag and also asked the company to provide a list of 30 personnel who could be allowed to enter the company premises. It had also provided relief to the company in context with submitting original records to the concerned authorities after LG Polymers claimed that it is facing difficulties to find the required documents.

The company lawyer also said that two lawyers were barred from entering company's premises even after Supreme's Court permission.

Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi appearing for the company requested for a stay but the bench refused. Rohatgi stated that the order of sealing the entire premises was unconstitutional adding that it HC had to ask for submission of the reports.

However, Justice Lalit said that the bench does not agree on the same and said that it was the fault of the company's manufacturers which had caused the gas leak.
