SC dismisses plea seeking implementation of farm Acts

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition which sought directions to the Centre and all states for enforcing the recently-enacted farm laws.

The apex court bench led by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde, was hearing a petition filed by Hindu Dharma Parishad, which sought directions to the Centre and the states to frame strict guidelines against the agitation by political parties and organisations over the farm laws.

There have been agitations across several states against the recently enacted Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and the Farmers Produce Trade and commerce (Promotion and facilitation) Act,2020.

The petition had sought implementation of the Acts and a ban on social media posts and other electronic communication which either supported or was against the Acts.

The top court today observed today that the petitioner cannot approach the court in such a manner and can only bring a specific case before it.
