SC asks Haryana, Punjab, UP to find solution to stubble burning

While hearing matters related to the pollution in Delhi, a Supreme Court bench led by Justice Arun Mishra asked the state governments of Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh to collectively find a solution to the problem of stubble-burning.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday asked the governments of Haryana, Punjab, and Uttar Pradesh to have a meeting with all the concerned parties and find out a solution to completely stop stubble-burning in the states.

The apex court bench led by Justice Arun Mishra was hearing a case pertaining to a bunch of interconnected matters concerning the pollution in Delhi.

In the earlier hearing as well, the court had asked the states to find out a solution for stubble burning, else the problem would continue forever.

Today, the farmers informed the court that they were not getting adequate financial incentives to switch to environment-friendly methods to deal with the stubble, forcing them to burn it.

Meanwhile, the Environment Ministry informed that the smog towers which were ordered by the apex court, will be installed in 10 months and a new technology to deal with farm residue will also be put to test this year itself.
