SC asks centre about funds spent on children shelter homes

The central government was directed by the Supreme Court to submit an affidavit about the funds spent on children shelter homes. The apex court had taken cognizance of alarming cases of children in shelter homes in different states being infected with the COVID-19 virus.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the central government to submit an affidavit in the court about the details and funds provided by it for children shelter homes.

The bench comprising of Justice L Nageshwara Rao, Justice Hemant Gupta and Justice S Ravindra Bhat was hearing a suo moto case in which the top court had taken cognizance of rising COVID 19 cases in the children shelter homes.

The suo moto was taken in the light of news reports which claimed that 35 children in Tamil Nadu government-run shelter home had contracted the virus.

In the last hearing, the top court had sought details from the states, who had not submitted status reports, on steps taken by them for shelter homes for COVID 19.

The judges asked the amicus curiae to submit the details of good practices followed by all the states and also suggest more steps which can be taken in order to control the outbreak of the virus in the shelter homes.
