SC adjourns Central Vista project matter to July 17

The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned to July 17 hearing on a petition against the Rs 20,000 crore project of the Central government for the redevelopment of the Central Vista in the national capital.

New Delhi:The Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned a matter related to the Union Government's Central Vista project to July as the Solicitor General and petitioners requested the judges to postpone the hearing.

According to reports, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta sought to adjourn the matter. "The Matter is a lengthy one and it needs a heavy argument," Mehta said before a bench led by Justice A M Khanwilkar.

The SC questioned whether the petitioners and respondents are ready for a hearing on Wednesday. However, Mehta was firm on his request and sought more time.

The petitioners put forward their point citing they have to file more documents in this case. Consequently, the apex court chose to adjourn the matter.

Meanwhile, senior advocate Shyam Dhivan filed a fresh application before the SC on Tuesday.

The Central Vista project involves the renovation and redevelopment of approximately 86 acres of land in the heart of the Lutyens Delhi.

The petition, filed by Rajeev Suri, sought directions to stay the Rs 20,000 crore Central Vista project and challenged the Centre's decision to notify a change in the land use regarding the redevelopment plan.
