Robotic trolley serves COVID-19 patients at Mumbai hospital

A remote-controlled robot 'Gollar' is being used at Mumbai's Poddar Hospital to serve medicines, food and water to people admitted in quarantine ward.

Mumbai (Maharashtra): A robotic trolley has been pressed into service at a hospital here to help eliminate contact and reduce the risk of infection among medical staff treating COVID-19 patients.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's office shared a video on Twitter, which shows the robotic trolley called 'Gollar' distributing medicines to COVID-19 patients at Podar Hospital in Worli.

"Robot 'Gollar' has reported on duty at Podar Hospital in Mumbai! It'll get you food, water and medicines.

This is an important step in our #WarAgainstVirus as it will eliminate contact and reduce the risk for our medical staff in COVID Facilities," the CMO tweeted.

Before this many other states also designed Robots to assist the healthcare workers and doctors in their fight against COVID-19.

In a bid to protect healthcare workers from the rising case of infections, a Kerala hospital introduced robots to assist patients. One of the robots was named ‘Asha’, a fitting tribute for the selfless services done by the Asha workers in the state.

Similarly, in order to avoid the medical staff from getting infected from the coronavirus, Chennai's Anna University's Automobile department and Electronic Communication department came up with a robot which performs multiple tasks at a time.

A Jaipur-based company developed robots to help health workers in conducting a thermal screening of the people that was the first in the world to be based on spine technology. The robot can also identify if a person is wearing a mask or not.

In the same way, a restaurant owner from Guwahati redesigned robots to assist health care professionals and facilitate a virtual meeting with doctors.

The number of active cases in the state now stands at 89,294. Of the total 224 deaths, maximum of 64 fatalities were recorded in Mumbai and 27 in Pune city.
