Restrictions reimposed in parts of Kashmir ahead of Friday prayers

Ahead of the Friday prayers, restrictions were reimposed in parts of Srinagar. In many areas, under section 144, a gathering of four or more persons is prohibited. Also, internet services across all platforms continued to remain snapped in the valley.

Srinagar:Restrictions were reimposed in parts of Srinagar in view of Friday prayers, apprehending that vested interests might exploit the large gatherings at big mosques and shrines to fuel protests.

Friday prayers have not been allowed at Jamia Masjid – the grand mosque of Kashmir in Downtown (old city area) - for over two and a half months.

Officials are worried that people can organise mass demonstrations and security has been enhanced at several places in the Kashmir Valley on Friday.

Restrictions have been implemented in most parts of the valley. In many areas, under section 144, a gathering of four or more persons is prohibited.

Internet services, across all platforms, continued to remain snapped in the valley. Train service has not started between Banihal in Jammu and Baramulla in Kashmir.

ETV Bharat found that security forces have been put on high alert across Kashmir ahead of Friday prayers.

The announcement of abrogation of the Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and its bifurcation was made on August 05. The state of Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into two parts- Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
