Ramkrishna Mission Vidyamandira appoints a non-Hindu as Sanskrit teacher

Ramkrishna Mission Vidyamandira (RMV), an autonomous college under the University of Calcutta has got a non-Hindu Sanskrit teacher. RMV is one of the prestigious educational institutions of the country.

Howrah: Swami Vivekananda had said, every human being has eternal divinity, which needs to be explored.

Vivekananda's words continue to resonate in the realms of Ramkrishna Mission Vidyamandira (RMV), an autonomous college under the University of Calcutta and a glimpse on the institute's faculty list shows how relevant those words are still today.

At a time when a section of students have been protesting at the Benaras Hindu University (BHU) against the appointment of Muslim teacher in the university's Sanskrit department, two teachers, Ramzan Khan and Ganesh Tudu, have been appointed as assistant professors at RMV's Sanskrit department.

The loud shouts of protest, which keep ringing outside the residence of BHU vice-chancellor, is not only missing in RMV, there is 'pin-drop silence' in Ramzan's Sanskrit class. Students with rapt attention devour his lecture.

“I have joined duties on November 19 and many students have come up to me since then and expressed their satisfaction in attending my lectures. I have found no change in any of my students' attitude in my classes,” Khan told Etv Bharat.

It is not only Ramzan Khan. Shamim Ahmed had joined the department of Philosophy in 2000 and today he is the Head of the Department. Ahmed is also doing his doctoral studies on Mahabharat and has Firadul Rehman as his departmental colleague.

RMV is one of the prestigious educational institutions of the country and has been declared as a premiere college of learning by the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development in 2018.
