Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra took to Twitter and wrote, "May God give shelter to the soul of Shri Amar Singh ji in his deeds. My sincere condolences to the family of Shri Amar Singh ji. I express my deepest condolences to his bereaved wife and daughters in this sad moment."

Union minister Nitin Gadkari said in a tweet that he felt very sad to hear the news of the demise of Amar Singh. 

"May his soul rest in peace," he said.

Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh passes away at 64 after prolonged illness

Former Samajwadi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh passed away at the age of 64 on Saturday. 

He was undergoing treatment at Mount Elizabeth hospital in Singapore for the last seven months.

In 2013, Singh had suffered kidney failure at a hospital in Dubai, following which he had undergone a kidney transplant. He is survived by his wife Pankaja and twin daughters. 

Earlier in the day, the former Samajwadi leader had posted messages on Twitter, paying tributes to Bal Gangadhar Tilak on his 100th death anniversary and also wishing people on Eid.

Condoling the death of the fellow parliamentarian, BJP leader and Rajya Sabah MP Subramanian Swamy said although Singh was mostly with SP, however, he made friends across the spectrum of political parties.
