Jaipur: The results of the elections held in 3,035 wards of 90 urban local bodies across 20 districts in Rajasthan were announced today. Congress put up a spectacular show by winning 1,197 out of 3,034 wards and BJP retained Ajmer municipal corporation.

Ruling Congress and main opposition party BJP were engaged in a tough fight in local body polls and the former won 57 seats more, registering their win.

The opposition BJP won 1,140, BSP 1, CPI(M) 3, RLP 13 wards while 634 independent candidates won the elections. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) also registered victory in 46 wards.

Retaining Ajmer municipal corporation comes as a big relief for BJP. The saffron party won four seats in municipal corporation elections, thus indicating that the party will form board in these areas.

However, BJP has claimed that it will form its boards in 30 municipal corporations.

BJP State President Satish Poonia, however, said that his party has garnered majority on 23 boards while Congress has been limited to 19 boards. "We have gained a clear majority for Ajmer Municipal Corporation. Out of 9 municipal councils, we won 4, Congress won 1 while independents won the remaining."

Now if Congress claims to form its boards on 52 seats, it will be "jod-tod" ki rajneeti (politics of make and break)", he said alleging that the ruling party will misutilise its resources.
On the BJP trailing behind on three seats where by-polls are supposed to be held, he said: "We shall come with a new strategy to steal the show."

On the other hand, Congress has stated that it will form its own board in 50 municipal corporations.
