Police in Punjab has said a special investigation team has been formed to hunt down the killers of Indian cricketer Suresh Raina's relatives.

Pathankot (Punjab): Former Indian cricketer Suresh Raina has appealed for help to Punjab Police and the state's chief minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, following an attack on his family. The state authorities assured him that the culprits will be nabbed soon.

Raina has revealed that his family has faced a gruesome incident in Punjab, which resulted in the death of his uncle and cousin.

Asking Punjab police to look into the matter, Raina said that criminals who committed the heinous crime should not be spared.

Meanwhile, Punjab police informed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) is probing the alleged killing of the cricketer's family members.

Speaking to media persons, Pathankot SP Prabhjot Singh Virk said, "We are taking the case seriously. Special Investigation Team (SIT) is probing the case. We are conducting raids at different locations. The attack took place in the district's Thariyal village on the intervening night of August 19 and 20. Raina's uncle Ashok Kumar(58) suffered head injuries in the attack and died on the same night, according to police. Raina's cousin succumbed to his injuries at a private hospital today."

Congress leader Raj Kumar Verka said," Punjab government and Punjab police are assuring the former cricketer that the accused persons will be punished soon. We have already initiated the investigation process and the police will nab them soon."

Reportedly, Raina had withdrawn from the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League last week. He had announced his international retirement on August 15.
