New Delhi: Asserting that India is doing better than other countries on coronavirus front, the BJP on Tuesday said that Congress MP Rahul Gandhi should not have made light of the national lockdown imposed to deal with the health crisis.

"Such a statement on the lockdown does not suit Rahul Gandhi. If you compare it (India) with other countries, we are doing far better," BJP national spokesperson Sudesh Verma said in a video message here.

Commenting on economic situation of the country, the BJP leader said that given circumstances, it would certainly get affected but the government was doing everything possible to keep in good health.

"It's a fact that the economy has suffered. It was bound to suffer because of the lockdown but the government has given a stimulus package of rupees 20 lakh crore," he said.

Verma also expressed hope that the on-going tension at the border with China would be resolved as the government was at it.

"The government would resolve the issue as it did in the past," he added.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held a security review meeting with the Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and the three services chiefs in the backdrop of heightened tensions with China over the boundary issue that has manifested in a stand-off between the two sides at four places along the border and the line of actual control (LAC).
