Puri expresses confidence ahead of Delhi Assembly election

Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) Hardeep Singh Puri expressed his confidence over BJPs performance to operate developmental works across Delhi which according to the former will help the party in the forthcoming Assembly election. Besides this, he assured people that the Centre will build houses for all slum dwellers in Delhi in the next 2.5 years.

New Delhi: Expressing confidence over the developmental works done by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) across the national capital, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday said that their efforts will be seen in the electoral calculations of the forthcoming Delhi Assembly polls.

"We (central Government) have done a lot of developmental works in Delhi including, to provide the land ownership to the unregistered colonies," said Puri.

Besides this, he assured the people of Delhi that they (the Centre) will build houses for all slum dwellers in Delhi in the next 2.5 years.

"Arvind Kejriwal led AAP government believes in false publicity only," he said by adding that "Developmental works done by the central government will definitely show its result in the upcoming election".

Delhi is all set for the Assembly election which will be in the early months of 2020.

While interacting with the media persons, Puri discussed the achievements of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana PMAY (Urban) scheme.

He told reporters, "Out of a validated demand of 1.2 crore houses in urban areas, 1 crore houses have already been sanctioned. Besides this, 57 lakh houses are in various stages of constructions of which, nearly 30 lakh houses have been completed."

MoHUA secretary Durga Shankar Misra said that the PMAY (U) that was launched in 2015 has covered a range of social groups which comprises of around 5.8 lakh senior citizen, 2 lakh construction workers, 1.5 lakh domestic workers, 1.5 lakh artisans, 0.63blakh differently-abled persons among others.

The secretary said that the implementation of PMAY (U), has induced a remarkable investment in the housing sector, especially in the affordable housing segment.

The houses sanctioned so far under the mission involve an investment of about Rs 5.70 lakh crore with central assistance of Rs 1.6 lakh crore, Misra said by adding, the central government is contributing Rs 1.00 lakh to Rs 2.67 lakh for each house under different vertexes of the scheme.

As on date, nearly Rs 60,000 crore of central assistance has already been released, Durga Shankar Mishra said.

Presently, works of about Rs 3 lakh crore is ongoing and by the time the mission accomplish its target of 1.12 crore houses, the entire activity will to trigger an investment of Rs 7 lakh crore.
