Protest ahead of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to India

Demonstrators from All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation hit the streets on Monday to protest the visit of US secretary of state Mike Pompeo's visit and denounce American policies in the Middle East. Secretary Pompeo will be holding bilateral meetings with PM Modi and External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar.

New Delhi:With US-India relations already sailing through rough waters, members of the All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation staged a demonstration to protest the visit of US secretary of state Mike Pompeo's visit and denounce American policies in the Middle East.

Many esteemed personalities including CPI MP D Raja also took part in the protest march which started from Mandi House and went on till Kasturbha Gandhi Marg near central Delhi.

The protesters held banners reading “No war on Iran” and chanted slogans such as “Hands off Iran, hands off!” and “War mongering America, down down.”

While talking exclusively to ETV Bharat, he said, "Our purpose is to convey a strong message to US administration as well as Indian administration. India as an independent nation should pursue a strong independent foreign policy and America can't pursue an aggressive foreign policy and dictate terms on other countries."

One of the protesters Mohammad Haider Ansari slammed Modi government for keeping quiet when Trump administration is put sanctions after sanctions on Iran.

General Secretary of All India Peace and Solidarity Organisation, Prof Sonia Surbhi Gupta said, 'our government which has come with a strong mandate should tell US Secretary of State that they should mind their own and let us mind our own business.'

Secretary Pompeo will be holding bilateral meetings with PM Modi and External Affairs Minister Dr. S Jaishankar. This is the first US official visit to India after PM Modi's re-election.
