New Delhi: President Ram Nath Kovind on Friday flagged off Red Cross Relief material at Rashtrapati Bhawan for people affected by flood and COVID-19 in Assam, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
Dr Harsh Vardhan, Union Health Minister and the Chairman of Indian Red Cross Society was also present at the event.

The flood situation in Bihar had worsened on Thursday with over 7.65 lakh people being affected across 10 districts. The districts affected by the flooding, caused by heavy rainfall in catchment areas along the border with Nepal, are West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Sheohar, Supaul, Kishanganj, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, Khagaria and Gopalganj.
Close to 14,000 people have been lodged at 28 relief camps set across the affected districts, while nearly 80,000 were being fed at 192 community kitchens.

The flood situation in Assam also remained critical as the Brahmaputra and its some tributaries are still flowing above the danger mark. Four more deaths were reported taking the toll to 119 in the state. A total of 28.32 lakh people in 26 of the state's 33 districts have been affected by the deluge.
The district administrations have set up 456 relief camps and distribution centres in 20 districts, where 47,213 people have taken shelter.

Surge in COVID-19 positive cases
Bihar on Thursday recorded 10,994 active cases and the total death toll reached to 217. In Assam, total active cases reached to 8,022, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The total number of COVID-19 cases reported so far in the country stands at 12,87,945 including 8,17,209 people who have been cured of the disease and discharged and 30,601 people who died.
