New Delhi:After the ruckus in the Tis Hazari Court area of Delhi, it seems that the disappointed Home Ministry can take the decision to replace the Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik, revealed the sources.

During the conflict between the Delhi police and the lawyers in Delhi which had been taken place last weak, slogans were raised against Patnaik which made it clear that the police force is extremely angry with their Commissioner.

Keeping this in mind, a decision may be taken on the removal of Amulya Patnaik soon by the Home Ministry of India, said sources.

According to sources, the Union Home Ministry wants to appoint a strong Commissioner in Delhi.

However, there is a high probability that the UP (Uttar Pradesh) cadre will be brought from outside to be appointed as the Delhi Police Commissioner.

Sources further revealed that the search for a new Police Commissioner has already been started.

At the top of the names, DJ Rakesh Asthana who got the additional charge of the Narcotics Control Bureau is there, besides, the Commissioner of Gujarat Shivanand Jha, ADG of Jammu and Kashmir SN Srivastava are there.

On the other hand, sources revealed that the Delhi Assembly elections are going to be held in February, next year.

The Election Commission (EC) may announce about Delhi polls by the end of the coming December.

After the announcement, Delhi Police may not get a new Commissioner by the end of election which conveys that Delhi Police will be run without a Commissioner during the elections.

Hence, the Home Ministry wants to replace the Police Commissioner before the Code of Conduct is imposed so that the Delhi Police has a Commissioner at the time of elections.

However, Amulya Patnaik wants to extend his terms and to take the reins of security in Delhi during the assembly elections and retirement after the end of the election.

Currently, the scenario is that Patnaik's retirement is to be held on January 30, while elections are to be held in the forthcoming February.
