Speaking to ETV Bharat, Ambassador Trigunayat also talked about President Trump's statement to the Indian diaspora in 2016 when he was running for Presidential post and he had said'Ab Ki Baar, Trump Sarkar'.

He further said that not long ago, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had called for the re-election of Modi government before the general elections 2019.

"Such statements are made to convey a certain meaning. These are part of diplomacy. PM Modi just appreciated President Trump," said former ambassador who had served at Indian Mission in the USA.

Prime Minister Modi had made this remark during his address to the Indian diaspora in Houston at 'Howdy Modi' event on September 22, in the presence of the US President Donald Trump.

Immediately after this, the Congress party had rebuked the statement accusing PM of violating India's foreign policy's time-honoured principle in the domestic elections of another country.
