Chennai:Traffic was paralysed for more than an hour on GST road in Perungalathur near Chennai as a Pattali Makkal Katchi protest turned violent creating tension in the area.

Under the leadership of Anbumani Ramadoss, the protestors demanded 20 per cent reservation for Vanniyar community in government jobs and higher education.

The protestors staged a rail blockade and pelted stones on a train. As the traffic chaos continued, ambulances were stranded amid the chaos. Citing public nuisance, the police arrested more than 200 PMK supporters.

Hundreds of PMK cadres flocked in front of TNPSC office in Chennai.

According to reports, Ramadoss had warned Tamil Nadu government that they will stage intense protests similar to the Patel agitation in Gujarat and Gujjar agitations in Rajasthan if community's demands are not accepted.
