New Delhi:Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be addressing a high-level segment meeting of the 14th session of the conference of parties (COP-14) under the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) on the issue of combating land degradation.
On the first day of the Conference, while making the announcement, Union Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said, "Be it climate change or desertification, human actions have a role in disturbing the balance of nature."
As India is hosting the Global event, it has taken over the COP Presidency from China till 2021. Over 72,000 participants from 197 countries will discuss viable solutions to the growing challenges of desertification, Land Degradation and Drought in this conference.
The Union Minister also stressed upon the importance of this conference by saying, "We can leapfrog for a good start in each country. Therefore UNCCD is very important and we expect some good outcomes which will be notified in Delhi Declaration as it will form the future course of action."
