Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Twitter followers cross 60 million mark

Prime Minister achieved yet another milestone when his Twitter handle crossed 60 million followers on Sunday. Modi, who started using Twitter in 2009 when he was the chief minister of Gujarat, is following 2,354 accounts. PM Modi's account in September 2019 was followed by 50 million people. His follower count shot up when he became the Prime Minister of India in 2014.

New Delhi:Not only in India but abroad, Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to be the favourite leader as he crossed 60 million followers on Twitter on Sunday.

Modi, who is known for reaching out to the masses through social media, also uses the platform to connect with his followers and make political statements.

Modi, who started using Twitter in 2009 when he was the chief minister of Gujarat, is following 2,354 accounts, according to his handle @narendramodi. PM Modi's account in September 2019 was followed by 50 million people. His follower count shot up when he became the Prime Minister of India. Within 10 months PM Modi received 10 million followers, becoming the most followed political personalities on the micro-blogging site in India.

Notably, PM Modi retains third position in the world in terms of Twitter followers, after former US President Barack Obama and his successor Donald Trump. Barack Obama, the former President of the United States has over 120 million followers, making him the most followed man on Twitter. Following him is his successor 45th President of the US Donald Trump who has 83 million followers.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who joined Twitter in April 2015, has over 15 million followers. Gandhi follows 267 accounts on Twitter, according to his handle.
