PM-elect Modi visits Kashi Vishwanath temple

Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi offers prayers at Kashi Vishwanath temple on Monday. He is on a visit to his home constituency after the thumping win in the Lok Sabha elections.

Varanasi:Prime Minister-in-waiting Narendra Modi on Monday arrived here in his parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh to thank the people for reposing their faith in him and offer prayers at the famous Kashi Vishwanath temple.

Modi is scheduled to address a gathering of workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during this first visit to his constituency after he won the Lok Sabha elections by a huge margin of 4.79 lakh votes

He arrived at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport and was received by the BJP President Amit Shah, UP BJP chief Mahendra Nath Pandey, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Governor Ram Naik and other officials.

As his convoy passed, people standing along the barricaded roads all along greeted and cheered for him. Balloons, posters and cut-outs of the PM adorned the route.

Chants of "Har Har Mahadev" rang aloud in the streets as the convoy made its way towards the Vishwanatha temple.

"Following his temple visit at Kashi Vishwanath and Kal Bhairav, he would address a gathering of workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Pundit Deen Dayal Hastakala Academy," said Manish Dixit state in-charge of BJP.

The programme is expected to last four hours.

On Sunday, Modi was in Gujarat to meet his mother Heeraben. He sought her blessings after leading the BJP to a massive victory in the Lok Sabha polls.

Modi is likely to take oath on May 30.
