New Delhi: A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Supreme Court against Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi for not disclosing the details of MoU signed in 2008 with China during the UPA rule.
Advocate Shashank Shekhar Jha and Editor in Chief of Goa chronicle, Savio Rodrigues, have filed the PIL seeking National Investigation Agency (NIA) or Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) investigation into the MoU under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act,1967.
They contend that despite having a hostile relation with China, the Congress-led government had signed an MoU with China and hid the facts and the details of the agreement.
Despite the congress party bringing Right to Information Act, it "failed to be transparent in this matter which is of national importance", said petitioners.
"Whether the Right to Information guaranteed to every Indian could be snatched by a Political Party, even when it is concerned to the matter of National Interest? Whether the Nation Security could be sabotaged by an agreement with the enemy state?" questioned the duo.
Citing the media reports, including panel discussion by Republic journalist Arnab Goswami where he had publically questioned Gandhi about the MoU, petitioners allege that the party leaders failed to furnish any details.
"That the true spirit of liberty, equality, and fraternity could be achieved through the medium of transparency and proper investigation and just judgement which could be achieved only if the agreement is investigated and secured by National Investigation Agency(NIA) under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act,1967," read the PIL.
