New Delhi:Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his 'democracy' remark saying that the same party under whose rule emergency was imposed is talking about democracy today. The remark of the saffron party comes after Rahul Gandhi said that democracy in India is only an imagination and not a reality.

Taking a jibe at Gandhi's comment, BJP national spokesperson Nupur Sharma said, "What democracy is Rahul talking about? Till now, Congress has not elected its chief and it runs on dynasty. Congress sponsored emergency and today it is giving lectures on democracy. Rahul Gandhi is making such comments as his party's performance was poor in the recently-concluded DDC polls in Jammu and Kashmir. BJP has emerged as the single largest party in the DDC polls and elections were conducted in a free and fair manner."

"It is the same party which allowed women and children to be beaten up when people were protesting against corruption in Ram Leela Maidan under UPA rule. Is this democracy when the body of a non-Congress Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao was not allowed to enter the party's headquarters?", she asked.

"Till now Congress has not elected its President in a democratic way. Congress has always followed the path dynasty politics," Sharma added.

BJP leader said that even the Supreme Court has stated that blocking roads and traffic is not a right way to protest.

"But people are protesting and it is only because of the democracy. If this is not democracy, then what is it," the leader concluded.

Earlier in the day, Gandhi along with Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury met President Kovind and handed over to him a memorandum signed by two crore farmers seeking withdrawal of the three legislations.
