Seven people rescued from the debris
An elderly woman received minor injuries when a portion of a five-storey residential building collapsed in Dongri area of south Mumbai on Wednesday morning, a civic official said.
Besides the woman, six others were also rescued from the Razzaq Chamber building, located on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Road in Dongri area, after its backside portion crashed around 7.30 am, the official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.

Part of building collapses in Mumbai; woman feared trapped
Mumbai:The back portion of an eight-storey residential building collapsed in Dongri area of Mumbai on Wednesday morning and a woman was feared trapped under a staircase there, a civic official said.
Fire brigade, police and ambulances rushed to the spot and search and rescue operations were underway, he said.
The incident took place on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Road in Dongri area around 7.30 am when the entire back portion between the third and seventh floors of the old building collapsed, the official said.
According to the preliminary information, some parts of the third to the seventh floor to the rear side of the building collapsed. However, the reason behind the collapse is yet to be ascertained.
A woman was feared trapped under a staircase of the building and efforts were on to rescue her, the official said.
After several cases of building collapse during monsoon, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has resumed its drive to vacate the demolish dilapidated buildings. According to the civic officers, 443 buildings listed as dilapidated have been marked for demolition by the year-end.

Earlier in the morning, a ten-year-old four-storey residential building collapsed in Nalasopara and five families escaped unhurt. However, no casualty was reported. The building was vacant when it collapsed but all the belongings and valuables of the families were buried under the debris. Police and a team of 20 firemen are at the spot and work of clearing the debris is underway.
