Kanpur: Retired judge Shashi Kant Agarwal, heading the one-member judicial commission probing the Kanpur ambush and encounter of slain gangster Vikas Dubey, on Monday visited Bikru village to probe the attack in which eight policemen had died. Agarwal visited the ambush site in the village near Kanpur and interacted with the locals.
Panel probing Kanpur ambush, Vikas Dubey's encounter visits Bikru village The single-member panel was formed by the Yogi Adityanath govt to probe into the Kanpur encounter and its subsequent six encounters between cops and Vikas Dubey's henchmen.
He also took a round of the village and tried to persuade the locals into recounting the details of the July 3 incident as well as Dubey's terror and illegal activities, an official spokesperson said.
Senior police and administrative officials including Senior Superintendent of Police, Dinesh Kumar Prabhu, reached the village to provide all assistance to the commission, he added.
Agarwal has been instructed by the Yogi Government to submit a report within two months after conducting a thorough probe into the various incidents that took place on the intervening night of July 2 and 3. The report will also seek details of encounters between criminals and police at various spots.
The judicial commission set up under the provisions of the Inquiry Commission Act will be headquartered at Kanpur. The panel will also investigate the nexus between Vikas Dubey, his accomplices, government and police personnel.
Justice Agarwal also visited the Nevada village where Dubey's close relatives, Prem Prakash and Atul Dubey, were gunned down in retaliatory firings by the police. Agarwal is also likely to make an inspection of the site where Dubey was killed in an encounter while making an attempt to flee as claimed by the police.

The government had constituted the commission on Sunday. Headed by retired Allahabad High Court judge Shashi Kant Agarwal, the commission has been asked to submit its report in two months.
Wanted fugitive don and history-sheeter Vikas Dubey was shot dead in an alleged encounter when one of the vehicles of STF he was travelling in had overturned and he attempted to flee. Dubey had snatched the pistol from the cop and fired at them, following which the policemen retaliated.
At least eight police personnel were killed on the intervening night of July 2 and 3 when Dubey attacked the team, who had gone to the criminal's house to arrest him in a case of attempted murder. More than 40 police teams were deployed to nab the gangster and nationwide manhunt was launched.
Five aides of the gangster were killed after the Kanpur ambush and his various political connections also grabbed the headlines. Two police officers were suspended for tipping Vikas Dubey about the police raid on July 3 and their call records also confirmed the same.
