Pakistan's hand behind Delhi violence: Satyapal Malik

Batting for the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Goa Governor Satyapal Malik said that misinformation on the Act was being spread to disturb peace in the country, and even Pakistan has a hand behind it.

Ghaziabad (UP): With the violence in Delhi claiming at least 42 lives, Goa Governor Satyapal Malik blamed Pakistan for spreading misinformation over CAA to disturb peace in India, here on Saturday.

Malik, who was in Ghaziabad to attend a private function, spoke in support of the CAA, saying that the Act only provided citizenship to persecuted minorities and did not snatch away any one community's rights.

"Most of the talk is on the basis of misinformation. Can anybody explain even one provision of the Act which is against any community? The Bill does not snatch anybody's citizenship, but rather only provides citizenship to persecuted minoroties," he said.

The Goa Governor went on to claim that Pakistan was behind the disturbance in the country over the legislation.

"By spreading misinformation, there is a big conspiracy to disturb the peace in the nation. Even Pakistan has a hand behind this," Malik claimed.

He added that the Police was doing its duty, and Pakistan's ill-intentions would never succeed.

Meanwhile, some signs of normalcy returned to the violence-hit areas of northeast Delhi today as people stepped out of their homes to buy groceries and medicines from a few shops that opened amid intensified patrolling by security personnel.

Since early morning, civic workers were seen clearing roads of bricks, glass shards and burnt vehicles in the aftermath of the violence that left 42 dead and over 200 injured. At some places, even bulldozers were used as it became difficult to manually remove debris.
