Pakistan High Court lawyer demands Bharat Ratna to Bhagat Singh posthumously. Bhagat Singh was born on this day in Banga, then undivided Punjab in 1907. He was convicted for killing British police officer John Saunders and was hanged on March 1931.

Pak lawyer urges PM Modi to accord Bharat Ratna to Bhagat Singh

New Delhi:As India celebrates 112th birth anniversary of Bhagat Singh, a Pakistan High Court lawyer and president of Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation has written to PM Modi to accord Bharat Ratna to the freedom fighter.

According to reports, HC lawyer Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi had made a special appeal to the Indian government.

Foundation chairman Imtiaz reportedly wrote a letter to Modi through Deputy High Commissioner of India, urging Bharat Ratna to be awarded posthumously to Bhagat Singh.

Qureshi is also fighting a case in Lahore high court to prove Bhagat Singh's innocence in a case, involving the death of a police officer, dated back to 1928.

Leaders, including Vice President Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday, paid tributes to freedom fighter Bhagat Singh on his birth anniversary.
