New Delhi:Over 1,000 women gathered near the Jaffrabad metro station in Delhi on Saturday night in protest against the new citizenship law and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
The protesters wearing caps with a message 'NO NRC' are staging a sit in protest on the road which connects Seelampur to Maujpur and Yamuna Vihar. According to reports, protesters will take out a march to Rajghat on Sunday morning.
The women, holding the Indian tricolour flag and raising slogans of 'aazadi', said they would not move from the site till the Centre revoke Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
Heavy security has been deployed at the agitation site and DCP (North-East) Ved Prakash Surya is also present there.

The Shaheen Bagh protesters have already told the Supreme Court-appointed interlocutors that if the road parallel to the anti-CAA protest site was opened, the apex court should pass an order ensuring their security.
In December last year, thousands of protesters holding placards and national flags gathered at Jaffrabad metro station raised slogans against the Act, which seeks to grant citizenship to refugees from Hindu, Christian, Sikh, Buddhist and Parsi communities fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh who entered India on or before 31, 2014.
