Delhi:With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) losing to the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha-Congress- Rashtriya Janta Dal alliance in the recently concluded Jharkhand assembly polls, BJP's national Spokesperson Bizay Sonkar Shastri accepted the defeat and blamed the party workers for losing their electoral stronghold.

BJP national spokesperson Bizay Sonkar Shastri charged that party workers were responsible for the BJP's defeat in Jharkhand.

"I do feel that since we are a big party, with lots of party workers, and the fact that more than 15 party workers expressed their desire to contest from one seat, led to the defeat of the party. Our party workers led to our poll defeat," Shastri told ETV Bharat.

When asked if the party lost the election because it campaigned on the wrong issues, Shastri said, "We lost ground in Jharkhand not because we raised the wrong issues or didn't deliver on our promises."

"During the Congress-led UPA regime, 60,000 crore was allocated for Jharkhand, but since our government was formed at the Centre, six lakh crore was allocated to the state during the first five years of our government, " added Shastri.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) led alliance secured a clear majority in the Jharkhand assembly.

The JMM has recorded its best-ever performance and emerged as the single largest party with 29 MLAs. The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) loss; its tally has come down from 37 MLAs in 2014 to 27, can be attributed to three cascading factors.
