New Delhi: The BJP on Saturday said that opposition parties, including Congress and TMC, are opposing the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB) for political gains as there is "no point" in doing so.

Speaking to ETV Bharat here, BJP leader from Bengal Rahul Sinha said the political parties are opposing it to maintain there vote bank as they don't want the 'intruders' to leave the country.

"Their 99 per cent of vote share come from these very people. They don't want to lose them," he said, adding that Indian citizens have nothing to worry about as far the bill is concerned.

The CAB, which was passed by the union cabinet earlier this week and has been facing stiff opposition from various quarters, is likely to be tabled in parliament on December nine. The same bill could not be passed earlier as it was turned down by the Upper House of the Parliament.

Touching upon the rising crime against women in the country, the BJP leader said society as a whole should do something about it.

"Government alone cannot bring about the required change, the society must also come forward to address the problem," he said.
