'One nation, one ration card' implemented in 12 states

Department of Food and Public Distribution, Secretary, Ravikant on Thursday said that the 'one nation, one ration card' facility has been started in 12 states in the country on the first day of the new year. In its initial stage, the scheme has been implemented in 12 states - Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Haryana, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Kerala, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, and Jharkhand. Later, by June it will be implemented in the other eight states leading it to reach their target.

New Delhi:The central government has implemented from January 1, 2020, the system of 'One Nation, One Ration Card'.

Under this scheme, beneficiaries of the public distribution of these states can get their share of rations in any of the 12 states in which they are residing, according to the Union Minister for Food and Public Distribution.

While talking to ETV Bharat, Department of Food and Public Distribution, Secretary, Ravikant explained that under this provision, a standard format of the new Ration Card is being provided asking the states to emulate the new format, which will be launched from June 1, 2020.

He said," One nation, one ration card' facility has been started in 12 states in the country on the first day of the new year. The benefit of One Nation, One Ration Card scheme cannot be availed in those states where it has not been implemented yet."

He further said, "In its initial stage, the scheme has been implemented in 12 states - Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Haryana, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Kerala, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, and Jharkhand."

Ravikant said that through this step, the centre estimates, an approximate 35 million people will benefit as they will be able to use their ration cards in any state.

"The initiative has come into effect initially in 12 states, and will gradually be implemented in the rest of the country by June," he added.

Earlier, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan had on December 3 announced that the 'one nation, one ration card' system will be "implemented without fail in the entire country" by June 30, 2020.
