Odisha: Woman tahsildar leaves her disabled son at home to perform lockdown duty

At a time when India stays in lockdown to curb the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19), officers like Kalyani Sanghamitra are working round the clock along with police and other emergency services to eliminate the disease, risking their own lives.

Gajapati (Odisha): In Odisha’s Gajapati district, a woman Tahsildar named Kalyani Sanghamitra posted at Mohana block in the district, leaves her physically handicapped son at home to perform COVID-19 lockdown duties.

Sanghamitra is being lauded by netizens for her unmatched sacrifice to ensure the safety of others during the novel coronavirus crisis.

According to reports, Sanghamitra, Tahsildar of Mohana in backward Gajapati district of Odisha has come forward to attend the call of duty leaving her only son, who is physically handicapped, at home.

She is carrying out her responsibilities efficiently by sensitizing the people of the second biggest tahsil of the state.

Speaking to ETV Bharat, Sanghamitra said," My child cannot speak and he cannot express his feelings. So it was very painful for me to leave him at home. Now he is staying with his father who is now playing a dual role- that of father and mother- now. I have not been able to go and see him for several days due to the crisis and at this juncture, being on duty is most important. The interest of the Nation comes before the interests of my family." However, while saying this, Sanghamitra could not hold back her tears.

Her selfless efforts have been winning hearts and many believe that because of her efforts, Mohana block has remained free from COVID-19.

"Any amount of appreciation for her work would not suffice considering the steps she had undertaken to keep the block free from coronavirus. Not only she had been able to effectively tackle the wayward persons but she also helped many innocent poor people. She is toiling day and night for the success of her mission and keeping the people safe against the dreaded virus. Apart from moving around the villages to sensitize the people, she is also supervising as to how the government’s assistance would reach the targeted population in a smooth manner," said, Madhusudan Padhi, a local resident.
