Observe Shab-e-Baraat at home, visiting graveyards not needed: Mahmood Madani

The general secretary of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, Maulana Mahmood Madani has appealed to all Muslims to observe Shab-e-Baraat at home, maintain social distancing and avoid gatherings for prayers at mosques and graveyards.

New Delhi: Amid the nationwide lockdown over of the coronavirus pandemic, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind general secretary Maulana Mahmood Madani on Tuesday appealed to all Muslims to observe Shab-e-Baraat at home, maintain social distancing and avoid gatherings for prayers at mosques and graveyards.

Shab-e-Baraat, also known as the night of forgiveness, will be observed on April 8.

"Shab-E--Baraat is a 'blessed night' and has utmost importance in the eyes of the believers," said Maulana Mahmood Madani.

Underlining the special significance of the night, Madani said worshipping whole night, offering Nafil (recommended prayers); Dhikr (recitation in the name of Allah) and other deeds will get you a special rewards from Allah and your supplication will be answered.

Madani, however, noted that all these praise and worship can be performed at home in a better environment. While referring to the opinions of Islamic jurists (fuqaha) regarding visit to graveyards on this night, Maulana Madani said according to them, visiting graveyards is not needed on every Shab-E-Baraat.

Madani exhorted the community to stay away from un-islamic things on the sacred night and abide by all the guidelines given by the government in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic and maintain social distance for the safety of people.

Meanwhile, Imam Umer Ahmed Ilyasi, Chief Imam of All India Imam Organisation also urged to remain indoors on the eve of Shab-E-Baraat and appealed the Imams to announce from their Mosques to advise and persuade people to stay indoors and pray from homes.
