NRC is internal to India; opposition indulging in politics over it: BJP

BJP has reiterated that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) is an "internal matter" of India and political parties raising hue and cry over the issue are indulging in politics, which should be avoided in the interest of the nation.

New Delhi: Stressing that maintaining National Register of Citizens (NRC) is an "internal matter" of India, the BJP on Saturday said political parties that are opposing it are "indulging in politics".

Talking to the ETV Bharat, party's national spokesperson Bizay Sonkar Shastri said NRC is for the people of the country.

"Only political parties, who play vote bank politics, are against it but it's in the interest of the people of the country," he said, adding that no genuine citizen would be left out of the list and there was nothing worry.

The BJP leader, on being told that visiting Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also termed it as an internal matter of India, he said, "she is right".

Shastri, however, said her statement does not make anything clear on the status of Rohingya muslims living in India illegally.

Touching upon other issues he said members of "award returning gang" are always against the Narendra Modi government.
