A renowned doctor Chittaranjan Bhave died after struggling for 10 hours for a bed in a hospital after getting infected by COVID-19. He is survived by his wife, Sujata and daughter Shraddha.

Mumbai: In a shocking incident, a noted doctor Chittaranjan Bhave died in Mumbai who was suffering from novel Coronavirus after struggling for more than 10 hours due to lack of bed in the hospital.

Bhave who was a surgeon in GSMC hospital breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Raheja hospital.

After tested positive with coronavirus, he was admitted to Raheja hospital for treatment but it took him almost 10 hours to avail a bed for himself.

Dr Chittaranjan Bhave is an E.N.T (Ears, Nose, Throat) surgeon. He had performed a surgery on a critical Covid-19 patient, after which Dr Bhave turned out to be COVID positive.

He is survived by his wife, Sujata and daughter Shraddha.

Soon after realising he had tested positive for COVID-19, Bhave himself drove to Raheja hospital to get admitted.

Bhave's wife and daughter had to be quarantined.

Meanwhile, nearly 125-150 doctors from BMC hospitals and 162 doctors from MARD (Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors) have been infected with the Coronavirus.

Around 200 nurses working in BMC hospitals have found to be COVID-19 positive. Earlier, an 85-year-old doctor had died in Saifee hospital of Mumbai.

Mumbai city continues to remain the worst affected as the number of cases crossed the 40,000-mark with 1,413 more people testing positive. 40 more people have succumbed to the viral infection in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 1,319.
