Not a single tree will be cut in Central Vista Project: Hardeep Singh Puri

Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Puri emphasized that no tree would be cut and no green patch would be damaged in the renovation project. The Central Vista, complete with parking and public amenities, should be done by November 2020, and the common Central Secretariat by March 2024.

New Delhi: Six Indian architecture companies have evinced interest in the Central government’s project to redevelop Parliament and three km long Central Vista. The Centre is likely to pick its consultant from these firms before 27 October 2019.

Addressing the media, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri said that Parliament and the North and South Blocks would not be razed, rather would see renovations or change of use.

Government office buildings like the Shastri Bhavan or Lok Bhawan were likely to be razed, officials had said.

Puri also emphasized that in the renovation project no tree would be cut and no green patch would be damaged.

The project is in its initial stage and the ideas are welcomed and at some stage, public ideas would also be taken care of.

The project will not harm the heritage of Delhi but it will enhance the heritage value of these buildings and city, it added.

A new or revamped Parliament building would be in place by July 2022, the request for proposal floated by the Ministry had said.
