Teachers of Acharya Narendra Dev College, one of 12 colleges of Delhi government, said that the government had earlier withheld the funds on the pretext of non-formation of the governing body. Adding that the governing body has now been constituted, but funds are not being released for reasons not known to them. On one hand, the Delhi government advises all not to hold back the salary of the people working under them, on the other the government itself is not giving salary to its own teachers, they added.

Non-clearance of medical bills

Due to the non-payment of salaries, teachers are faced with multiple financial hardships. Teachers and other staff of the Delhi government’s 12 colleges have been waiting for their salaries for four months. Needless to say, they are facing difficulties in meeting their family expenses. They are also facing a lot of problems due to the non-clearance of their medical bills.

Holding funds not fair

Teachers of Acharya Narendra Dev College, while sharing their problems, said that during the time of COVID-19 when the money is most needed, the Delhi government has done injustice to them by holding the college funds. The teachers say that the Delhi government has claimed to have provided financial help to everyone during the time of the pandemic, but its own teachers have been bereft of their salary.

Facing financial problems

Due to non-payment of salary, it has become difficult for teachers to manage their family expenses, especially in those cases where husband and wife are working in the Delhi government-funded colleges. There is no source of income for them. At the same time, the teachers say that EMI has to be given, but due to non-payment of salaries, they are not able to make monthly payments to banks against their loans. Some of them are not able to pay the insurance policy premium. Many teachers are upset due to the non-clearance of their medical bills. All payments have been put on hold due to the non-release of funds.

Resolve differences at your own level

A teacher of Acharya Narendra Dev College said that when he is not getting the salary, then from where he should give monthly remuneration to his driver and maid, who works in his house. Teachers say that the Delhi government never stopped the salaries of colleges all these years. This time if there is no consensus between the Delhi government and the Delhi University administration, then why should teachers and staff suffer.

Teachers have urged the Delhi government and the Delhi University administration to resolve their differences at their own level, but do not let teachers and staff suffer unnecessarily. They say that they have discharged their duties in colleges with full devotion. In this case, salary is their right. They must get salaries on time.

These teachers have also reminded the Delhi government that the issue of the formation of the governing body, on the pretext of which the fund was withheld, has been resolved. The governing body has been formed. Therefore, withholding the salary of teachers any more can harm them financially.
