No infiltration along India-China border in six months, MHA tells Rajya Sabha

Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai has replied that there has not been any Chinese infiltration in the last six months, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has informed the members of the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.

New Delhi:The government on Wednesday informed the parliament that no infiltration has been reported along the India-China border in the last six months.

On a question asked by Rajya Sabha MP Dr Anil Agarwal that weather cases of infiltration from Pakistan and China have increased during the last six months, Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai replied, "No infiltration has been reported along Indo China border during the last six months."

In his reply, Nityanand Rai did not give any further clarification and stated that 47 attempts of infiltration were reported from Pakistan since February.

"The government has adopted a multi-pronged approach to contain cross-border infiltration, which inter-alia include multi-tiered deployment along the international border/Line of Control, improved intelligence and operational coordination, border fencing, deploying technological solutions and taking pro-active action against infiltrators," Rai added.

On Tuesday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh made a statement in Parliament on the Indo- China issue and said that there was a face-off in Galwan Valley on June 15, in which the Indian forces inflicted heavy casualties on the Chinese forces.

"Even as this situation was being addressed by the ground commanders as per the provisions of our bilateral agreements and protocol, in mid-May the Chinese side made several attempts to transgress LAC in other parts of the Western Sector," Singh said.

Speaking on Rai's statement, an MHA official clarified that his statement is not in conflict with the Defence Minister statement given in Parliament on Tuesday. He said infiltration is not the same as transgression and it is used for terrorist crossing from Line of Control (LoC), hence it is incorrect to say there was any infiltration.
