New Delhi: Alleging that Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar was "diverting attention" from the work that should have been done under his leadership in the state by demanding special status, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Gopal Narayan Singh on Tuesday said he should focus on developing it on the basis of the resources available there.

"It is very unlikely that Bihar would be given special status as is being demanded by Nitish Kumar," the BJP MP said.

The state has lots of resources and these could be utilized to develop the state further, he said.

The BJP leader also said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made it very clear that the demand to grant special status to Bihar cannot be accepted as it would encourage other states to ask for the same.

"I don't think it would be granted to Bihar. The central government is ready to support any of his plans to develop the state but he is just diverting the attention of the people from his work," Singh added.

The BJP MP, also the former party chief in Bihar, told ETV Bharat here that Nitish Kumar government in the state has failed to attract FDI.

"He is not bothered about the on-going development projects in Bihar. Why can't he concentrate on them," he asked, adding that special status won't help and the state government must do everything possible to develop it using its existing resources.
