Nehru taking Kashmir to UN, a 'blunder', says BJP

The BJP has supported Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement wherein he had said that taking the Kashmir issue to the UN was a greatest mistake.

New Delhi: The ruling BJP on Monday reiterated that Congress government at the centre made a "blunder" by taking Kashmir issue to the United Nations after Pakistan attacked India soon after Independence in 1947.

Speaking to the ETV Bharat here at the BJP headquarters, party spokesperson Tom Vadakkan termed it as a "blunder".

Supporting Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who on Sunday had said that decision to internationalise the Kashmir issue was his biggest mistake in the years following the country's Independence, Vadakkan said "truth cannot be erased".

"It's there recorded in the history books," he said, adding that it became a problem for India when the matter was taken there under UN charter 35, which makes it a case of disputed territory.

"Had it been registered there under UN charter 55, the situation would have been different as in that case it would have been the case of some nation taking over another's territory by force.

On being asked if it was Nehru's mistake, the BJP leader said: " I won't say anything but he was Prime Minister then."

Touching upon other issues such as floods in Patna, he said opposition must not jump the gun and let authorities deal with it.

"It was an unprecedented rain in Patna and efforts are on to provide all possible relief to the affected," he said.
