New Delhi:The National Commission for Women chairperson Rekha Sharma, under Section 10(1) of National Commission of Women Act, 1990 has taken suo moto cognizance of Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik for his derogatory comments against Bollywood actor Kangana Ranaut and has sought immediate arrest of the MLA.
Pratap Sarnaik, in a tweet, demanded that Kangana be booked for sedition for comparing Mumbai to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. He threatened the actress saying she will be beaten to death with stones and rods just how they lynched Palghar Sadhus if she enters in Mumbai.
Reacting to the tweets and reports by the MLA leader, NCW chief Rekha Sharma said she is taking suo moto cognizance in the matter. “He must immediately get arrested by Mumbai Police. Taking suo moto”, she tweeted.
While speaking to ETV Bharat, NCW chairperson said, “NCW has taken suo moto on the matter and we have written a letter to DGP Maharashtra to immediately arrest the MLA, he doesn’t have any business to threaten women like this. Maharashtra is a part of India and anybody from India can visit Maharashtra anytime and freedom of speech is there, she can say whatever she wants to say but that doesn’t mean that any politician or a leader can threaten women like this".
