New Delhi:The Home Ministry on Wednesday informed the Rajya Sabha that the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) can use Automatic Facial Recognition System (AFRS) for identification of criminals, unidentified dead bodies and missing and found children and persons.
With an aim for better identification of criminals, the Union Home Ministry has approved for implementation of Automatic Facial Recognition System (AFRS).
This was informed by Minister of State for Home G Kishan Reddy in the Parliament on Wednesday.
Reddy said that the approval has been accorded for implementation of automatic facial recognition system by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
The minister said, "AFRS will use police records and will be accessible only to law enforcement agencies.This will facilitate better identification of criminals, unidentified dead bodies and missing and found children and persons. It will also not violate privacy."
Meanwhile, Reddy said that there was 70 percent reduction in insurgency related incidents in northeast last year.
"The security situation in the Northeastern states has improved substantially since 2014. Compared to 2013 there has been 70 percent reduction in insurgency incident, 80 percent in civilian casualties and 78 percent in security forces casualties in the year 2019, " said Reddy.
